On the eve of the Automesse in Detroit (North American International Auto Show or NAIAS, from 8 to 22 January 2017), Volkswagen presents the new long version of the Tiguan and the VW Atlas. Both SUVs are scheduled to hit the US market in 2017.

27 centimeters longer than normal Tiguan
The Tiguan long version also comes to Europe and will be called Tiguan Allspace here. It has an eleven centimeter extended wheelbase and a 27 centimeter longer length (4.75 meters). But also the differently designed silhouette of the rear section, changes in the front area and a significantly expanded series equipment distinguish the newcomer from the more compact version. The second row of seats can be moved longitudinally and folded in the ratio 40:20:40. A third series is available in the USA with the versions with front-wheel drive series, with the four-wheelers as option. Only a 2.0 TSI with 186 hp is offered as an engine in America.

Distance meter, Active Info Display and more
The extras include (at least in the USA) a distance control, an anti-collision system with pedestrian detection, a blind spot assistant with cross-traffic warning and a track-crossing warning. The Active Info Display, a sensor-controlled tailgate and a panoramic roof are also offered. From the early summer of 2017, the new version with up to seven seats will be successively introduced in the markets of North America, China and Europe.

"Recovering the trust of customers"
The new VW Atlas had already premiered in Santa Monica (California) at the end of October 2016. It also offers space for up to seven people, but with 5.04 meters it is considerably longer than the Tiguan Allspace. With the Atlas, VW is offering a Midsize SUV for the first time. The new model is manufactured in Chattanooga (Tennessee) for the North American market. Volkswagen brand manager Herbert Diess said: "The North American market is of great importance to Volkswagen and one of our most important tasks is to regain our customers' trust. Volkswagen stands for vehicles that are developed for buyers of this region and built here at attractive prices. The Volkswagen Atlas and the new Tiguan mark the beginning of this major product offensive. "
