Whether NSU Ro 80, Porsche 928, Renault 9 or Peugeot 405: All of them were once "Car of the Year" in Europe. Since 1964, the coveted award has been awarded, even if the year is always a bit irritating. The 2017 trophy will be awarded to a 2016 novelty as part of the Geneva car salon on 6 March 2017. Seven models have made it into the tightest selection.

Do you earn points?
A total of 58 specialist journalists from 22 European countries choose the winner. The vote is transparent, you know who has given which model as many points. The seven finalists were filtered out from 29 candidates after a first test week in Denmark in October 2016. They will be subjected to further tests at a French test site at the end of February 2017. The jury members pay 25 points per person, which must be distributed to at least five of the seven vehicles.

Only one German mark in the final
well by the country team performance broad diversity of the jury, there is no national focus on the final candidate. Germany is, for example, only racing with the new Mercedes E-Class, Italy comes from Alfa Giulia. France is represented with the Citroën C3 and the Peugeot 3008. A Japanese victory could bring the Nissan Micra or the Toyota C-HR, the Volvo S90 / V90 represents the Swedish colors. Last year, the Volvo XC90 had to beat the new Opel Astra with 18 points difference.
