It was only at the beginning of December that Ford introduced the new edition of Fiesta. Only two weeks later a WRC version for the 2017 World Rally Championship will be postponed. We therefore take a first look at the Ford Fiesta RS WRC from M-Sport and the future and already very successful crew on board.
New regulations should provide more tension
The radically designed Fiesta RS WRC is reminiscent of the unleashed group B-cars of the 80s. But even under the powerful front and rear wings marked body, the M-Sport specialists have left hardly one stone on the other. Well 95 percent of all parts have been completely redesigned or revised. Under the hood is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo, which by the new regulations for 2017 now for 380 hp and 450 Newtonmeter is good and has to deal with only 1,190 kilograms of empty weight. The power then reaches a four-wheel drive with an actively controlled medium differential via a sequential six-speed gearbox.

The adjustable suspension is based on modified McPherson suspension struts. The special Reiger shock absorbers have an external oil reservoir and can be modified in terms of tension and compression. It is retarded by means of internally ventilated disc brakes, together with four-piston monoblock brake calipers from Brembo. And if there is a collision, the driver and the passenger are protected by a high-strength steel safety cell, welded to the chassis, as well as reinforced door frames.

Speaking of the crew: At the wheel of the Fiesta RS WRC, the four-time WRC champion Sébastien Ogier will be sitting from 2017, who was looking for a new job anyway after the exit from VW from the WRC. On the passenger seat Julien Ingrassia takes place, who was already at VW the copilot of Ogier. "Our goal for 2017 is certain: we want to win again world championship rallies," says M-Sports boss Malcolm Wilson. We keep our fingers crossed, but with this combination the odds are not so bad.
