Mercedes is pushing ahead with the generation change in the E-Class: after the sedan, the Kombi T model and the all-terrain terrain combi, the manufacturer is launching the coupé as the next variant of the mid-range series. The second-door has its premiere in January at the Motorshow in Detroit / USA and arrives in the spring in the trade. Mercedes did not yet share the prices.
Compared to the previous E-Class Coupé, the new model is significantly longer. It gets a new bow with a strong engine bonnet and is overall sportier, the manufacturer said. In addition, there is an interior that differs from sedan and station wagon not only through the seats, but also through playful details such as the diffusers of the air conditioning system.
There are, however, no differences in equipment and drive. Like the other model variants, the Mercedes Coupé also features two large screens in the cockpit, infotainment functions, a concierge service and an army of assistance systems.
In the engines, there are three petrol engines from the E 300 up to the E 400 4Matic with 135 kW / 184 hp to 245 kW / 333 hp, as well as for the first single diesel the 143 kW / 194 hp strong E 220d. This allows top speeds of 240 to 250 km / h. Fuel consumption ranges from 4.0 liters of diesel to 8.1 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers (106 to 183 g / km of CO2).
With the coupé, the E-Class is a quartet, but the model planning is not yet advanced. At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, Mercedes will also be presenting the convertible of the series. (Dpa / tmn)
